My airborne allergen story: a trip to grandmother’s house
One day, I went over to my grandmother’s house to surprise her. She was really excited to see me, but she had not cleaned that day. After she made some fresh coffee for us to enjoy together, she began to rapidly clean the living room that we were sitting in.

She grabbed some cleaning tools to dust off the coffee table and did a bit of quick vacuuming. While she was doing this, I was overwhelmed by dust, which caused me to sneeze. It also caused my eyes to become red and puffy. My eyes were also itchy, which only became worse when I rubbed them.
I realized right away that the problem was the level of dust in the air, and I suggested that she stop cleaning so that I could recover from my symptoms. Although I did not need medical attention at that point, I realized that if I did not stop her from continuing to spread around the dust that I could have needed some type of medical attention. Fortunately, she did stop cleaning when I requested her to do so.
An air purifier would have really helped the situation at my grandmother’s house that day by preventing the dust and allergens from getting to my nose and eyes. After that experience, I decided that during the next holiday season I would give her an air purifier so that she and her guests could be allergy-free in her home in the future.
